Join me for this free, 90-minute class and discover the Five Things I’ve Learned about America’s political orphans – the great majority of our fellow citizens who want leaders who approach their jobs with civility and are more interested in getting things done than political gamesmanship.
I’m Scott Klug. I’m a former four-term Wisconsin State congressman and the current host of the podcast “Lost in the Middle,” a year-long journey in which we try to better understand the ideas and experiences of Americans who consider themselves squarely in the center of our political electorate, squarely in between the far-right and far-left of our dominant political parties.
I hope that you will join me for Five Things I’ve Learned about America – By Talking to Americans Lost in the Middle. In conversation with Resolute Square’s Megan Matson, I’ll share the personal and political lessons I’ve learned by talking with the almost 45 % of American voters don’t consider themselves affiliated with the extremes of our mainstream political parties – citizens who want their leaders to approach their jobs with civility and who are more interested in getting things done than in political gamesmanship.
What have I learned from talking with these fellow Americans? More than anything, that these political orphans form a real, growing political consensus in this country – even if we need to look outside of Washington to find it.
Time and time again, these individual lost in the middle have taught me that:
- If you’re feeling estranged, you’re not alone. There are a lot of political orphans out there.
- If you’ve ever lost faith in the American dream, spend some time with a foreign-born cabdriver. They are wide-eyed optimists.
- Somewhere along the line, we lost civility.
- Travel around the U.S by yourself. It makes you talk to strangers.
- The media does not subscribe to ideological diversity.
You can get a preview of these lessons in my Five Things I’ve Learned about America video reflection, which you can find here.
I also invite you to check out (and subscribe!) to our “Lost in the Middle” podcast, which will allow you to hear from fellow Americans who likely share many of the same political opinions and aspirations that you do. We talk about issues important to us all: How, for example, the media went off the rails, how political districts became wired, and how political reforms could make districts more competitive again, or – if we do things the wrong way – how these reforms can make it the situation even worse.
But first: Please take a minute to get your free ticket to upcoming live conversation with Megan.
As I’ll explain when we talk, there’s a lot of political orphans out there across America. I look forward to telling you more about that story.
