View the archive of our 90-minute class and discover the Five Things We’ve Learned about selling your book and maintaining a living as writer today.

We have heard one question throughout our decades in the writing and publishing world: How can I make a living as a writer?

It’s always been tough, but in the halcyon days of yore authors could focus on writing and leave the rest of it to their publisher and/or agent to take care of. No more. That’s why we each have worked hard to develop our craft as authors not only on the page—but as “authorpreneurs” off the page.

Between us, we’ve created writing communities, started publishing ventures, put on reading series, hosted a literary podcast, founded educational writing organizations, taught writing, spoken on the speaking circuit, launched literary nonprofits, worked in bookstores, published successful Substack newsletters, served on literary nonprofit boards, led writing retreats, and even been an Executive Producer on a reality TV show about writing.

We might say that we’ve seen it all, but we both know we’re going to see more soon.

All of those authorpreneurial skills can also help you do one important thing to help you earn a living: Sell. Your. Book.

Together, we’ve put together this course to help you learn about growing literary- and book-adjacent businesses, and to share our decades of experience as creators, publishers, producers, and literary change-makers.

We’ve found that authorpreneurship isn’t its own separate thing—it works best when it flows naturally from your creative life.

We’ll share five things we’ve learned about what it takes to be or become an authorpreneuer. It takes hutzpah and an entrepreneurial spirit to fully leap into the creative life, and we have learned that this is not an all-or-nothing game. This course will cover why you need to cultivate multiple streams of income, why timing matters, and why the old truism—“you gotta fake it till you make it”—is as relevant here as anywhere.

This time together will support you to think beyond the bounds of being “just” an author and invite you to conceive of your work not only as a career but as a calling—one that will allow you to share your gifts with the world in expansive and unexpected ways.

Whether you’re dreaming of your next big literary endeavor or looking to scale something you’ve already started, we will open a space for you to begin to map out what’s possible based on what fuels your passions. There will be time for brainstorming and sharing, and we can’t wait to dream into your future with you.
